Give a Book is a pilot scheme run through - but independent of - Simon Gray's website. It is a non-profit organisation. We facilitate the gift of books to selected charities. It was set up in memory of writer and playwright Simon Gray who loved to read and to share his reading.
How it works: Give a Book sources new books at cost price through our partner, Daunt Books; we put a personalised bookplate into each book, then package and post the books to our selected charities. Every donation you make buys and distributes a book to someone who - for differing reasons - might need one.
Every £5.00 donation Gives a Book.
Ways to Give:
1. Give Once: To give one or multiple copies of a book or books from our list on a one-off basis, please click here. 5 copies of a book (£25.00) starts a reading community in Maggie’s Centres or Age Concern; 15 copies (£75.00) Gives a Book to an entire First Story reading group. To choose a book to give, click here.
2. Give to a Child: Give a Book is now working with Volunteer Reading Help to give books to children who struggle with literacy. Each month a special guest selects a book for the scheme. To give one of these books click here.
3. Give Regularly: If you would like to give regularly, we can set-up a monthly subscription. You can either give regularly from our main collection, or our books of the month. Click here.
4. Give a Donation: We have no overheads but we do have to cover the costs of PayPal, postage and packaging as well as the upkeep of the site, so we are very grateful for any monetary donation. To simply make a donation, please click here.
Give a Book is a new project, evolving all the time. We hope to include more charities and wider locations as we grow.
